General information

Best months to travel are from June until October. In summer and autumn the weather is almost always nice and sunny.

You will find hotel accommodation only in Khorog and in Jelondy (about 120 km east of Khorog along the Pamir Highway). On your trip you will stay with host families and experience their genuine hospitality and get a view of the life and culture of the Pamiris.

Hygiene is not what you are used to. We make great efforts to ensure basic standards of cleanliness and have washing facilities. There are many hot springs but in remote locations it is maybe just a bucket of water.

Do not expect Western standards of travel. The roads are often in bad condition and very rough.

As you will see there are a variety of cars we can offer, according to size of group and desired comfort.

Small groups are easier to organize but we already had groups up to 14 tourists. 2 - 5 people are ideal. You have to take into account that you need a guide and drivers and that you have to take petrol storage containers with you. All groups are equipped with Satellite Phones.

Tajikistan, including the Pamirs, is politically calm since the late 1990s and is, for the time being, one of the safest places to travel in Central Asia.

You should be in good health and have a travel insurance so that in case of illness or accident you can be treated and if necessary evacuated. We do have excellent relationships with the Rescue Services and the Central Hospital in Khorog. Both organizations also collaborate, like us, on a medium term basis with Inter-Assist Foundation, our Swiss Partner Organization.
