Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), the eastern part of Tajikistan, is a large mountain region better known as the PAMIRS
with 216000 inhabitants. Khorog, the capital of GBAO, at an altitude of 2100 m, is accessible from Dushanbe or Osh by car in 2 days or
by plane from Dushanbe if the weather allows.
